Faux Alligator
Vintage Purse Question?
Okay, I bought this purse that has never been used at a thrift store. Inside it says Ande’ on the label. It’s white faux alligator skin with a long strap. It has a gold clasp that locks kind of like a diary lock that has two little pegs and one slides side ways and makes the clasp pop open. I’m guessing that it’s from the 30′s-50′s. I was wondering if it is worth anything. Thanks!
You describe the bag as having a long strap – well that rings alarm bells in my mind and I would be tempted to say that the bag may not date from the 30′s to 50′s but from the 70′s onwards. In which case, it is indeed worth very little, especially since it is not made of real croc skin.
To determine its value, try and assess whether it is trendy looking, whether it is a shape, size, colour that is likely to appeal to today’s fashionistas. Because if it is and it is in mint condition, then it is likely to raise some interest in the vintage handbag lovers’ crowd. Which in turns means that it would sell but maybe not for loads of money.
